How Many Tough Conversations do You Have in a Day?
Have you ever considered how many tough conversations you have in a typical day?
Some days, it seems like an endless series of negotiations and meetings.
How do you think you’ve been handling them?
Could you do better?
As soon as I start feeling my stress level increase regarding an upcoming conversation I ask myself these questions:
🌟 Why do I perceive an upcoming discussion as a tough conversation?
🌟 Am I prepared for this conversation?
🌟 If not, how can I get prepared?
📌 Stress is usually related to lacking a plan between what you expect to happen and how you’re currently prepared to handle the situation.
📌 Stress is also the more socially acceptable synonym for fear.
Remember, having a scheduled negotiation should be considered a true luxury. You now have the opportunity to develop your plan; to prepare for the conversation and develop a thorough understanding of the other person’s needs, requirements and background.
🚀 Not knowing when the conversation will occur is the equivalent of being ambushed.
🚀 Choosing not to prepare for a scheduled negotiation is dropping yourself into an ambush.
